MSP Workshop - Assessment of Student Learning - May 16-18, 2004

Description

Participants at the May workshop on assessment of student learning will explore an expanding body of research about assessing student learning, learn how the implications of research on human learning affect
assessment approaches, and discover how assessment can promote student learning. Education reports from the National Research Council (NRC) http://www.nas.edu/nrc/ will serve as the central focus of the sessions
with other activities illustrating how the research that is synthesized in our reports (e.g., Knowing What Students Know, Assessment in Support of Instruction and Learning, and High Stakes) can be applied to the work being done by MSPs.

There is no registration fee for this workshop. The National Academies and the National Science Resources Center will supply all participants with CD-ROMS containing 14 NRC reports relevant to the
"Assessment of Student Learning" workshop as well as other workshop materials. We also will provide breakfast and lunch on May 17 and May 18. All other expenses incurred in travel and hotel costs are the individual responsibility of each partnership project.

Those of you who attended the previous workshop on assessment of student learning in February might want to send a different team from your MSP to the May workshop or recommend colleagues who might be interested in participating. While participants at the first assessment workshop reported that this event "stretched their thinking" about assessment, we
currently are revising and updating the agenda to better reflect suggestions from an evaluation panel of participants at the February workshop for making future events even more successful.
